• Voice activated computei systems are poised to revolutionise the haulier's office, the Road Haulage Association heard last week.

The RHA's Midland and Western Regional conference, held at Newport, Wales was shown the system by Roadtech Computers, which manufactures the Roadrunner software package. It allows managers to give computers verbal instructions through a light headset. The makers say it will make everyday office tasks quicker.

Hertfordshire police and county council environmental health officials arrested two men and a woman on 29 February on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. They were later released on police bail but must report to St Albans police station on 9 May to learn if they will be prosecuted.

Police and environmental health officials confirm that several tons of tissue, including amputated limbs, blood and placentas were found in trailers at sites in Hoddesdon and Hatfield in Hertfordshire.

A council spokesman. refuses to name the three waste contractors which were paid to carry waste to a Birmingham incinerator after a London incinerator broke down. "It wasn't getting there," he says. "But they were invoiced for that incineration."

The council is making enquiries about breaches of environmental health and waste regulations.

Police say they arrested a 31-year-old man from the St Albans area and a 44year-old man and a 48year-old woman from north London.
