AN INTENSIVE network of five scheduled coach services from all parts of Merseyside to Manchester Airport is planned to be launched by Lloyds Coaches, Melling, near Liverpool, on April 12.

Each route will operate at three hourly intervals, 24 hours a day, until the end of September, with reduced frequency in the winter. The fare will be £2.25.

This will be the first scheduled coach operation by Lloyds, which operates a fleet of 14 vehicles, ranging from one 53seater down to 1 2-seater minibuses on private charter work.

Four routes have been finalised, starting from Crosby and travelling via Formby and Southport; from Ormskirk and travelling via north and east Liverpool suburbs; from Liverpool city centre and covering Huyton, Prescot and Whiston; and from Belle Vale covering the South Liverpool area (including Liverpool Airport).

Permission has also been granted for two services from Wirral and the route for one of these will be finalised shortly.

Journey time for each route will be 100 minutes, and the six coaches will be manned by 18 regular drivers working a threeshift system, with others on standby.

The company hopes to take on 20 to 30 youngsters under the work experience programme to help with baggage handling and to attend the general welfare of passengers.
