Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A DECISION to pull out of the unit load business has been made by Pickfords International, and a total of 160 jobs are being lost in the UK as a result. A total of eight depots — in Tilbury, Felixstowe, Harwich, Southampton, Liverpool, Hull, Newcastle and Glasgow — are being closed.

As well as the redundancies in the UK nearly half of the 145 men employed by Pickfords International (Deutschland) GmbH are being made redundant. The German subsidiary is in future to concentrate on freight forwarding.

Pickford's International is a major part of the National Freight Corporation's international division and the redundancies represent about 15 per cent of the division's workforce. A spokesman for NFC told CM this week that the move away from unit loads had been planned for some time. -The business is oversubscribed," he said. The division had a turnover last year of £30m, twice as much as a year ago.
