THE BATTLE over who should pay the f3m deficit accumulated by Edinburgh's Corporation transport department reached Government level last week. The city's new district council is fighting the ruling (CM. January 31, that city ratepayers should foot the bill when the Lothian region takes over the bus fleet

Officials from the three authorities met at the Scottish office last week in a bid to solve the dispute but no decision was taken. Lord Hughes, Minister of State, is considering a request by the district council to transfer the £3m deficit to Lothian along with the assets.
