Tool Tray Aids Maintenance

A LIPPED metal tray, 11 in. square, mounted on a sliding tube giving 9 in. of vertical adjustment, is being produced by Foster Webb and Co., 618 Grand Buildings, Trafalgar Square, London, W.C1, for attachment to the front of vehicles while carrying out service operations. The base of the tube has a V attachment incorporating guides to fit round most types of bumper, being secured by a 2-in, rubber stop which presses on the front of the bumper, after adjustment with a crank-operated screw thread.

The Motobench, as it is called, is intended to carry spanners, sparking plugs, distributors and all normal tools and components of moderate weight. It costs 12.

Simms Couplings Announced

A RANGE of flexible couplings for fuel-injection pumps and exhauster drives, as well as general auxiliary applications, is now being produced by Simms Motor Units, Ltd., Finchley, N.2.

Said to be free from back-lash and capable of taking up radial misalignment up to 0.010 in., they are constructed throughout in steel with an oilproof synthetic-rubber insert.

Stick-on Numbers PLAST-ICS self-adhesive letters and numbers for number plates and so on are being produced by Plastic Adhesive Numerals, Great Horkesley, Colchester, Essex. Immersion in warm water enables the .protective backing to be removed before application to the usual type of number plate. To obviate the drilling of holes, self-adhesive black plastics backgrounds are also available.

Battery for Cold Weather LATEST addition to the range of batteries produced by Chloride Batteries, Ltd., Clifton Junction, Manchester, is a 6v. unit, type 3WXTA232L, which has been introduced as a partner to the existing 12v. model for operation at sub-normal temperatures (The Commercial Motor, December 27, 1957).

With an electrolyte temperature of 70° F. the new battery will discharge at 100 amp. for 40 minutes to a final voltage of 1.13 per cell. At 00 F. it will deal with -engine starting rates of 200 amp. without falling below 1.33 points per cell.

• It is 6in. wide, 1 in. long and 9+ in. high, the weight being approximately 46 lb, unfilled and 57 lb. filled.

Preventing Wear ASURFACE-TREATMENT grade of molybdenized lubricant, known as Molytox plus, is now available from Rocol, Ltd., Rocol House, Swillington, Leeds. It can be used to impart a wearresistant film to bearing surfaces, gear teeth and so on. It is a general-purpose fluid for the dry lubrication of both Metallic and non-metallic surfaces.

It may be applied directly to normally clean engineering -surfaces by brush, spray or dipping, but better results are obtained by degreasing the work and drying it at 80400° C. before application, and afterwards drying it at the same temperature for 30 minutes.

Tape Unwinds Easily A DEVELOPMENT which, it is 1—Velaimed, could result in. savings in time, trouble and tape itself, is announced by -the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., Ltd., 3M• HO use, Wigmore Street, London, W.1, producers of Scotch Boy masking tape. A new process has been applied to this product whereby the non-sticky side of the tape repels the adhesive, resulting in much easier unwinding without stretching the crepe-paper backing.

Cheaper Jones Crane A MODIFIED version of the Jones KL

44 mobile crane, known as the KL 44B, is now being marketed by George Cohen, Ltd., Wood Lane, London, W.12. By reducing the high operating speeds of the KL 44, which arc not always required, it has been possible to introduce a less powerful engine, whilst maintaining the same lifting capacity. This has resulted also in a reduction in price.

An air,cooled oil engine is used, and the hoisting speed in low gear at maximum load on two falls of rope is 22 ft.

per minute. Slewing speed is now 2 r.p.m. and the tap travelling speed, 3 m.p.h. Maximum lift of 4 tons is handled at 8-ft. radius.

Battery for Popular Models

A BATTERY. which can be used on

the Commer R.6 oiler and Bedford 7-ton oiler has been developed by Joseph Lucas, Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham, 19. It is known as the type HV27E. Two 6v. units are required on a 12v. system.

Capacity is 165 a.-h. at the 10-hour rate and 180 a.-h. at the 20-hour rate. Overall dimensions are: Length 16* in., width 64-1in., and height 8i in. Retail price, dry, is £13 25. 6d., acid and the first charge costing 5s. 9d.

Dunlop Guide Revised wirrniN the 830 pages of the 12th YV edition of the "Dunlop Guide" .(Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., 7s. 6d.) the gazetteer of towns has been brought up to date and incorporates a number of new features. Thirty more town street plans have been included, to bring the total to 167. Principal car parks are shown on these street plans, and the details of hotel accommodation have been widened in scope.

The 24-page atlas has been revised and now shows new and projected by-pass roads.

Service Depot Layouts FUEL-INJECTION. service-depot layouts are now available from the Merlin Engineering Co., Ltd., Hebble Mills, Halifax, and should prove useful to those planning new premises or extending existing facilities.
