A BOUT 40,000 tons of wood pulp will

be moved each year from the new works of the Sudbury Pulp Mill, Ltd.. near Chepstow, when it starts operations in about a week's time. This was stated at Bristol, on Tuesday, when the company's transport manager, Mr. C. Budden. supported an application by Mr. R. Read, Longhope, Glos, for the addition of three vehicles and two trailers to his A licence.

Mr. Budden said it had been decided to share the outgoing traffic between British Road Services, British Railways, Mr. Read and a clearing house, Western Freights, Ltd. General ingoing raw materials of 60,000-80,000 tons a year would be moved by road, and the railways would be given 5,000 tons of sodium sulphide.

He said the mill was the only one of its kind in the country. It was railconnected, but the management thought that finished products might be damaged by soot and condensation when going through the Severn tunnel.

The application was opposed by B.R.S., British Railways and two private road operators, who claimed that existing facilities were adequate for the extra traffic. Granting two vehicles and one trailer, Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, said it was his duty to ensure that sufficient transport was available, so that an industry serving the national interest should not be held up.
