Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TO avoid inconveniencing passengers if flight arrangements at-Newcastle Airport should be cancelled, R. Dickson Junr., Ltd., Dundee, on Monday asked the Scottish Traffic Commissioners to include Renfrew Airport as an alternative on their Scandinavian air-coach tour.

Mr. Robert Dickson, ma n aging director, said flight arrangements at Newcastle broke down last year, and his passengers used Renfrew under a special dispensation. He did not think there was much chance of using Newcastle this year, but he wanted to retain it.

The application was opposed by Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd., W. Alezander and Sons, Ltd., and British Railways. Mr. R. C. B. Currie, for the objecting road operators, pointed out that Dickson's had prepared their brochures last autumn, listing dates for departures from Renfrew. Now they were asking for a Renfrew departure on the strength of bookings they had taken.

Mr. W. Fletcher, for Dickson's, said the brochures made it plain that the tours were subject to the Commissioners' approval. It would be ridiculous to start preparing brochures as late as March.

The application was granted, but decision was reserved in respect of tours to Nice and theRivieras. Austria, Venice and Switzerland. Mr. Alex. Robertson, chairman, said-the Commissioners wanted to see the outcome of a similar applicati6n in Southern Scotland for the company's parallel tours from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

NO:EDINBURGH-PRESTAVICK LINK NECESSARY

A PROPOSAL by Scottish Airlines 1-1,(Prestwick), Ltd., to link their Isle of Man services with Edinburgh by means of a coach service was rejected by the Scottish Traffic Commissioners, last week: For the airline, it was stated that there was considerable Edinburgh-Isle of Man traffic, and at present passengers had to make their own travelling arrangements to Prestwick.

The objectors, Western S.M.T. Co., Ltd., said a direct air service from Edinburgh to the Isle ' of Man was being planned. This would involve an hour's flying, whereas from Prestwick there would be a idiree-hour coach journey from Edinbur-gl.

Mr. W. Quin, chairman, said the airline's proposed length of road travel was out of all proportion when compared with the shorter direct air route.

MORE EXAMINERS TO BE SPARED

ATpresent, 102 driving and traffic examiners are employed full time on the enforcement of the Road Traffic Acts. The approved establishment comprises 100 examiners permanently on enforcement and as many others as can from time to time be released from driving-test duties. When fewer driving tests are outstanding, the number of enforcement officers should be sufficient.

The Minister of Transport gave this information last week.
