Although Mercedes-Benz has produced some 20,00( heavy Atego chassis, it is a small player in the British multi-wheeler market. But the Atego is leading the six. wheeler mixer chassis market and has increased M-B's share of the threeaxled market overall to 8.6%, with 800 Atego 2628s sold since the launc, just about two years ago. Even the world's biggest manufacturer can't promise you a truck entirely free of mechanica problems and it seems thz the M-B's 6.4-litre engine is sometimes troublesorm two out of the three operators we talked to hay had them replaced. The good news is that M-B's warranty stood up well. Using an extended versiol of the narrow Atego day cab is a compromise—it adds extra space for the driver but not much extra weight, and not much to the price. Most importantly, it brings the unladen weight of the sixwheeler closer to that of it competitors.
The Atego 2628 has yet tc appear in the used truck market, but if you do find one of these technically advanced workhorses it iE likely to be more practical than previous MercedesBenz six-wheelers.
