CHANNEL TUNNEL CONFERENCE • The commercial possibilities for the private sector arising from the projected channel tunnel will be examined at a conference at the Royal Institute of British Architects on June 27.

One of the speakers will be RI-IA director general Freddie Plaskett, who will be presenting the association's__ misgivings about the rail-only link during his paper entitled A missed opportunity." He will also be reviewing the factors which will affect road hauliers' choices of route when the new tunnel is opened, and looking at the facilities needed by road hauliers who will be using the tunnel in preference to the existing ferries.

The conference is being organised by Mark Allen International Conferences, at Battersea Centre, 103-109 Lavender Hill, London SW11 5QL.

MISSING LINK ENQUIRY • A public inquiry into draft proposals for the 23km (14mile) M20 Maidstone to Ashford "missing link" will open on Tuesday, July 15. The venue will be the Orchard Room, Veglios Motel, Maidstone, with a 10am start.

Mr D R Leaker, ARIBA, an independent inspector nominated by the Lord Chancellor and appointed by the Secretaries of State for Transport and the Environment, will consider objections and representations about the proposals.

These are contained in seven draft Orders published under the Highways Act 1980 by the DTp in December 1985 and April 1986, copies of which can be inspected at the offices of Kent County Council, Maidstone Borough Council and Ashford Borough Council; Ashford and Lenham public libraries, and at the Hollinglx.)urne Post Office.

FIRE AND RESCUE '86 • Some of Britain's best preserved fire and rescue appliances will be on show at the Dover Fire and Rescue '86 exhibition which is being held on June 21 and 22 at Myrtle Park, Bingley, West Yorkshire.
