Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SALES of commercial vehicles in Britain fell by 18.44 per cent in May of this year compared with May, 1979, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

At 24,444, May sales were 5528 lower than in the same month last year. Imported vehicles accounted for 23.93 per cent of the May total, compared with 24.83 in 1979.

Ford was the leading British maker with 8084 sales, and Volkswagen the leading importer with 1037 sales. Both figures are down on last year.

New sales for the first five months of 1980 are down 1.36 per cent on last year's figures at 126,683. Importers have taken more of the diminishing market this year with 23.96 per cent compared with 22.14 per cent in the first five months of 1979.

Of the 18,594 British vehicles sold in May of this year, Bedford vehicles amounted to only 3814 compared with 5149 last year. Total British Leyland sales also dropped from 6190 to 4789.
