Keywords : Screws, Nut

QCREWDRIVERS incorporating a 0,-/ spring-loaded sleeve over the shank, to hold the screw being inserted or removed firmly in position against the end of the shank, are being imported into the U.K. and distributed by Henri Picard and Frere Ltd., 34-35 Furnival Street, London, E.C.4. They are known as the Tenax, and a range of sizes and types is available. Three are for slotted screws, one is suitable for Philips No. 2 headed screws and two are for nuts and bolts. Blade diameters of the screwdrivers for slotted screws are 3, 4 and 6 mm., whilst the versions for nuts and bolts are for 3/4 mm. and 5/6 mm. A/F hexagons. Retail prices range from 7s. 6d. to Ils. 3d.

The screwdrivers are well made and of good quality steel with plastics shockresistant handles. The screw-holding device does not make the tools unduly bulky; the spring-loaded tube fits closely over the shaft and for use it is pushed downwards to clear the blade and allow the screw to be placed in the countersunk recess. The end of the blade is then located in the slot, Philips recess or on the hexagon of the nut and in this position the screw is held firmly. The portion of the blade that projects beyond the end of the attachment (before it is pushed down) is sufficient to allow the screwdriver to be used in the normal way and, if desired, the sleeve can be detached simply by unscrewing.
