FORTY drivers from five depots of Reed Transport Ltd. took part in the company's Lorry Driver of the Year contest at Aylesford, near Maidstone, Kent, last Saturday.

The drivers lost marks for faults in their driving when negotiating a course designed to test their skill in parking, reversing and judging the width of their vehicles, and were also questioned about the Highway Code.

There were four classes and the winner of each class took part in the final. There was also an invitation event for drivers in other Reed Paper Group companies.

Winner of the competition was Mr. T. Tanner, Thatcham Depot. He won the class for heavy articulated vehicles, losing 152 marks out of a possible 750, and went on to win the final with a loss of only 62 marks out of 350. Mr. Tanner. 31, has worked at Thatcham for 17 years. He has driven for 10 years, and delivers to London loads of board for conversion into corrugated cases.
