Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHEN the latest Commer and Karrier WV forward-control goods chassis were introduced earlier this year (The Commercial Motor, February 8, 1963), it was revealed that a new Perkins four-cylinder diesel engine was to be offered in certain of the models, this being based on the 6.354 six-cylinder unit. At that time the engine was being supplied only to the Rootes Group, but Perkins are now making it available on the open market for automotive, agricultural, industrial and marine applicationsoand an example is to be exhibited at the International Construction Machinery Exhibition which will be held at Crystal Palace London, next week.

Like the 6.354, the 4.236 is a directinjection design with C.A.V. DPA distributor-type injection pump. It has a capacity of 3.86 litres (235.9 cu. in.) and is to be offered with gross ratings of up to 80 b.h.p., although for the Rootes application it develops 69 b.h.p. (net) at 2,800 r.p.m, and 176 lb. ft. torque at 1,400 r.p.m. The engine to be shown at Crystal Palace will be a " simplified " industrial version giving 75 gross b.h.p. at 2.500 r.p.m. and maximum torque of 187 lb. ft. at 1.200 r.p.m.
