ABBEY LOGISTICS Group has boosted its bulk powder transport division by picking up assets from collapsed haulier RH Stevens Transport and customers from its successor company Macclesield Transport.

Under the deal, 25 staff – including all drivers, planning specialists, and workshop employees – will transfer to the Liverpool-based haulier from 31 July.

Abbey will also take on the irm’s powder tanker leet of 25 trucks and 40 tanks and continue the Macclesield storage and debagging operation until December, after which a new site will be established.

RH Stevens Transport, which was founded more than 60 years ago, put its three subsidiaries into liquidation in February following the loss of several large contracts.

It established Macclesield Transport to satisfy the remaining contracts.

Abbey says it is unable to dis close the purchase price under the terms of a conidentiality agreement, but that it has been in talks with the owners of both companies since February to take over the operations.

Abbey MD Steve Granite says: “We are pleased to have reached agreement on this deal, which will give Abbey access to the bulk powder transport market – one which we have experienced but never had the resources to compete with the national companies.

“Now we are in a position to offer a high-quality, reliable and competitive alternative on a national basis. We are keen to expand the division and feel we have the right structures in place to manage this acquisition eficiently.”
