Demand to rise as operators look to meet new LEZ rules, says Manheim Remarketing

Words: Kevin Swallow MANHEIM REMARKETING says there will be a spike in demand as van users assess their vehicles in light of the changes to London’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ) that come into force in less than six months’ time.

Hauliers that operate inside the LEZ are faced with a choice of either replacing vehicles to avoid ines or itting approved particulate ilters. The latter option could cost more than £2,000, says James Davis, general manager for CVs at Manheim Remarketing, and there are 70,000 vans that could be affected by the LEZ changes on 3 January 2012.

“The average age of vans sold by Manheim Auctions varies between 50 and 55 months, so there is plenty of choice for dealers to stock up in anticipation of small businesses or sole traders looking to replace their ageing vehicles before the end of the year.

Transport for London advises operators to allow three months to order, it and certify ilters through an MoT test station. ■
