Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Truck sales are still booming, although many operators are hanging on to their truas for longer. Scania talks us through the market.

MANUFACTURER'S VIEW Andrew Jamieson, Scania marketing and rental director HGV sales continue to flourish the 15tonne-plus sector is up 6.8% on last year. Two-axle tractor units are doing best of all, with sales since January up 18.7% on the same period of 2004.

This is despite the fact that many operators are seeking the flexibility afforded by three-axle units, where sales grew 2.4%. Overall tractor units account for 53% of HGV sales, which is on a par with last year.

Turning to rig ids, the 8x4 construction is also holding steady with 9.4% of the total heavy truck market. The 6x4s are doing a little better, with growth of 9% In the year to date.

Overall the market has performed well this year although we face some challenges with the digital tachograph station still causing some concern for international hauliers and the Euro-4 deadline fast approaching.

Operators are holding on to their trucks for longer; we're finding 30% of contracts being extended past their original termination date as everyone waits to see which way the wind blows with Euro-4 and digital tachos.

However, there are plenty of positive factors. The UK economy is still doing well against many of our competitors and growth in GDP brings growth in demand for transport, and therefore for trucks.

The winning of the 2012 Olympic Games will no doubt bring with it a number of constructor projects with sustained demand in the construction sector.
