NEW REGULATIONS on the enforcement of European drivers' hours rules in the UK were launched in Parliament last week, in preparation for digital tachographs. From 5 August the new regs will impose: • An increase in the maximum penalty for failing to provide records or obstructing an officer from £3,000 to £5,000 • A new six-month limit for which records can be held if not needed as evidence • A requirement for drivers to sign a print-out from their digital tachograph to confirm the accuracy of the information shown • A new offence of permitting falsification of records with a maximum fine of L5,000 • A new offence of supplying or installing devices designed to interfere with tachograph function.
