The journey is a charity run for the Metrocab Marathon, sponsored by Lombard Finance. The 25,000-mile round trip to South Africa is an attempt to break the Guinness record for the world's longest taxi journey and is expected to use 1,000 gallons of diesel in its trawl through 17 countries. The drivers, Mark, Jeremy and Carlos, aim to raise E100,000 for the Joint London Taxi Driver of the Year Society Charity by the time they return at the end of August. That's if they haven't worn each other out with endless cabbie-style monologues on politics, holidays, royalty, the meaning of life, the universe and everything.
