Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Phoenix Truck and Trailer Equipment has launched a 9.5tonne tag axle designed for lowheight tractive units and low frame height rigids. Phoenix claims the chassis can be 102nun lower than with a conventional axle, because of the drop centre design. This allows sufficient suspension movement without the need to cut into the chassis section.

In practice, this means that the air suspension can be raised fully for coupling and uncoupling without risk of the axle fouling the chassis. The design followed enquiries at the IRTE show in Telford and Phoenix has already made the axle a standard production item.

11 The company has also launched a twin-wheeled midaxle kit, also plated at 9.5 tonnes.
