guard's application for a new national licence to base three vehicles and two trailers at Hazel Way, Barwell, Leics has being severely restricted by Eastern Licensing Authority Brigadier Compton Boyd following opposition from 166 local residents and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.

The opponents maintained that the site was unsuitable for use as an operating centre. The residents claimed that vehicles often had to reverse down the length of the road and complained about noise, especially early in the morning. Traffic examiner Jack Henshaw said to gain access to the warehouse site the vehicles had to be reversed into the premises. The major problem was the company's 20-tonne artic, which straddled the carriageway and both pavements when reversing into the site, said Henshaw.

The premises had been a commercial operation long before the neighbouring houses were built, the company pointed out.

The LA imposed conditions limiting the hours of operation and the size of the authorised vehicles to 7.5 tonnes gross, and said the vehicles had to be parked, loaded and unloaded in the warehouse.
