Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

An Efficient and Practical A.R.P. Outfit, Based on the Morris 10-cwt. Utility Van, Can Be Used as Ambulance or for Evacua

tion Purposes ATYPE of ambulance equipment which may be used in existing types of normal-purpose machine, with but little alteration or expense, is that for which Composite Vehicles, Ltd„ 182a, Old Shoreham Road, Hove, 4, is

responsible. It would seem that the two main essentials of such an outfit are that it should be possible to effect the conversion in a matter of minutes, and that the alterations to the body should not prevent the machine being used for normal operation.

In the present instance, the ambulance equipment can be dismantled and stowed away on the vehicle in 2i minutes, and the alterations to the body in no way interfere with normal usage.

The accompanying illustrations show the equipment as applied to a Morris 10-cwt. van, and it is of interest to note that the trailer body is a facsimile of that on the chassis, hence its capacity is the same.

Although of small dimensions, each

body comfortably accommodates four stretchers. As an alternative, each piece of equipment may be arranged to take two stretcher cases and four patients sitting or, as an evacuation vehicle, eight passengers may be carried —a total of 16 as a trailer outfit.

A point of interest is that the company holds a patent for a special loading tray, whereby only two attend 4,36 ants are required to introduce a stretcher into the ambulance.

The trailer, in itself, forms a particularly serviceable and practical solution of the problem, as it can be attached to any form of towing vehicle. The maker has, therefore, made the trailer available as a separate unit, and as it can be converted as quickly as the van type, it can be employed on any normal type of haulage work and therefore does not represent tied-up capital.

It is worth stressing the point that in the case of the van body or trailer, either may be on the road doing normal work and, ignoring any load being carried at the time, a four-stretcher ambulance can be made available in 2i minutes.
