Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I have read with interest your Battleground Logistics item (CM17-30 Dec) and there is some unfortunate confusion over the Scammell name.

Leyland Daf very much values its ownership of the Scammell name and heritage, and it is quite wrong to refer to Unipower as "Scammell's parent company" or "Scammell's owner".

Some time ago Unipower purchased from Leyland Daf the designs to some of the heavy vehicles originally produced at the Scammell works, but the use of the Scammell name was specifically excluded from those sales.

Leyland Daf not only values the Scammell trade mark, but also markets vehicles under the Scammell name, and indeed has just satisfied an RAF contract for Scammell vehicles.

Unipower no doubt carries on a tradition of heavy truck production, but it is not the owner of "Scammell".

AMR Watts, Leyland Daf Thame, Oxon.
