Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Changes are to be made in the Speedlink groupage service, says the NFC. They follow the recent formation of Pickfords International Ltd (CM December 10 1971) and aim to help shippers more effectively to meet the requirements of the European trade.

National Carriers Ltd will join forces with Containerway Europe Ltd (the company which launched Speedlink services last year and which is being absorbed into Pickfords International) to provide an integral service to the customer. They will market and operate the groupage services jointly.

The experience which NCL has gained from its groupage services to Ireland, the Channel Islands and other destinations, taken together with the specialist knowledge and European associations of Containerway Europe mean that a customer can have European transport arranged with the same facility as inland movements. Depots and offices of both companies throughout the country will collect traffic and forward it to Europe through the Speedlink network. They can quote throughrates to European destinations.

Cargo from the North West will be consolidated at National Carriers' Ducie Street warehouse in Manchester 1 and shippers are being asked to consign their cargoes to Containerway Europe at that address.

New extensions to the Speedlink network will operate from Hull, using National Carriersmodern warehouse in Kingston Street, and further extensions through Felixstowe, to cater for the increasing number of shippers in the Eastern counties, are under consideration.

Speedlink services currently operate between Barking, Manchester and Coatbridge and Holland, Belgium, Germany and France. Services to other European countries are in course of development.
