Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Fife and District Tipper Operators' Association, representing 10 haulage contractors who operate to and from Longannet and Kincardine power stations, ceased operations on January 13.

The secretary, Mr Tom Gaitens, said members had agreed it would be "foolish" to try to enter the stations with pickets operating. He gave a warning that, if the miners' strike continued for any length of time, it would inevitably lead to drivers being paid off for a period.

A fair proportion of winter work for the contractors comes from taking local coal into Kincardine power station, and ferrying fuel from Longannet to Cockenzie power station on the south side of the Forth.

• Pickfords Tank Haulage Ltd has moved its head office to The Cross, High Street. Stroud, Gloucestershire. (tel: Stroud 5031).

• Mr Peyton has rejected a suggestion — from Mr Ron Lewis (Labour, Carlisle) — that he should bring in a Bill to return National Carriers Ltd and Freightliners to the control of British Railways.
