• The Congress of the Chartered Institute of Transport at Newcastle upon Tyne from April 5 to 8 this year will have the theme: "Transport and the environment in the North East: a study of regional policies and practices".
The first transport paper will be given by Dr B. T. Warner, chief of economic and marketing services, National Freight Corporation, and his subject will be the patterns and opportunities in freight transport and distribution in the north-east region. The joint secretary of the National Ports Council will follow with a paper on the ports industry in the North East.
These specifically transport papers will have been preceded, on April 5, by introductory lectures on the industrial, commercial and transport planning background.
On April 7 the director-general of Tyneside PTE, Dr Tony Ridley, will speak on passenger transport in the region and a BEA executive board member will discuss air transport's contribution to freight and passenger movement in the North East.
• Preliminary figures issued by Dennis Motor Holdings Ltd show a greatly improved position for the year ended September 30 1971 with an after-tax group profit of £191,970 — in the previous year a loss of £32,509 was incurred. Dennis Motor is proposing to pay an Ordinary dividend of 5 per cent — 2fp per share.
