Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'THE first public inquiries to be held by the A recently appointed Isle of Man Traffic Commissioners took place in the Island last week.

As reported in COMMERCIAL MOTOR on October 22, 1965, they have taken over control of road passenger services from the Isle of Man Highways and Transport Board.

Sitting with the chairman, Mr. C. Rniveton, were Mr. H. W. Mills, formerly director and general manager of Southern Vectis Omnibus Co. Ltd., and Mr. T. G. Moore.

Coach owners reacted strongly to a proposal by the Highways and Transport Board that the popular Injebreck route should be prohibited for coach traffic. For the Board, Mr. W. Vick said the route was too narrow and there was little room for vehicles to pass.

The Commissioners reserved their decision.

A later hearing concerned a Douglas Corporation proposal to withdraw the coach stands on the promenade and to restrict the number of picking-up and settingdown points.

Mr. Kniveton observed that at Douglas there were no streets behind the promenade, as there were at the Lancashire resorts, where vehicles could stand.

There was a further clash between the operators and the Port Erin town commissioners, who sought prohibition on coaches using the lower promenade. A decision was reserved.

An application by Isle of Man Road Services Ltd. for certain new routes in Douglas, made by Mr. W. Lambden, general manager, was refused.

For hearty 40 years, said Mr. Lambden, the local authority had rigidly controlled every one of his company's services in the borough and stopping places had been fixed precisely. The company had been subject to control in a way that no other bus operator in Britain was controlled.
