Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Charles Burke, Burke

As if to prove that everybody is talking about the driver CPC, Charles Burke tells how he was recently chatting to some drivers in their mid-to-late 50s.

They all said they would quit before it comes in," he says. "If they're too young to retire they'd go and work for a company such as B&C), which actively recruits older staff.

"This could cause a huge driver shortage. I've been in transport for 40 years and I'll do the periodic training. But I know it won't make me any better at my job."

Burke shares the view that new recruits will be deterred, not encouraged, by the mandatory training.

"What individual looking for a job is going to fork out hundreds of pounds for an LGV licence and then a thousand or more for CPC training?

"I just see a shortage of drivers and a huge influx of foreign trucks," he says.
