Logistics manager Panther Platform Rentals Luton, Bedfordshire Nick Matthews is certainly not waiting around to see how the Driver CPC will affect his company. He is already looking at getting the firm's existing training schemes accredited so they count towards some of the periodic training.
The objective is to get the first seven hours of the required 35 hours completed this year in a bid to spread the workload and cost. Nick Matthews "I've been working on this for the past three months to give us a head start," says Matthews.
-One reason to act now is that I think we can get a better rate from training companies. If we leave it until the last minute, we'll probably find what had cost E.40 an hour will instead cost E80 an hour," he says.
Matthews is convinced the CPC is positive but insists the training must be appropriate for drivers. That means training in skills they will use every day, rather than completing tasks on a computer or ticking boxes on a bit of paper.
