Several drivers at troubled transport firm City .ogistics have been made redundant ahead of a possible sale to one of its rivals.

iaA number of drivers have been told by the dministrators, Andersen, that their services no longer required by the Milton-Keynesbased haulier, which has been In administration since its parent company City Group called in he administrators last month.

According to driver Dave Smith, he and seven of his colleagues were told not to return to work at City's Spennymoor depot where they were based.

"I was told on Friday (8 February) to pack up my truck as there was no more work," he says. "The company appears to be selling off some of the older trucks. We've now been told to apply to the government for holiday pay we are owed and that's that, as far as they are concerned."

A spokesman for Andersen, the accounting firm that has been running City Logistics since it was called in by its management, declines to discuss the redundancies. "Andersen is still working with the staff of City Group to find a new buyer for the companies that make up the group," he says. "I can't say any more at this stage as negotiations are on-going.'

Subcontractors will have to wait until next year before they see any of the money they are owed by CO Logistics. Graham Wilkinson worked for City for two years as an owner-driver. He says he is owed 128,000 for work done between last September and the time City called in Andersen. "An administrator told me last week that I should not expect payment this year, if at all," he says.
