Chris Wright is MD of Commercial Vehicle Auctions. CVA holds sales at Doncaster on two Wednesdays each month with a throughput of 160-200 trucks, 80-150 trailers and various items of plant. Wright also conducts sales around the country at customers' premises.
"We sell a lot of Actros tractive units but only a few each year with the flat-floored Megaspace cab," he reports. it's usually the case that where the big cab is specified so is the big V8 engine. Those operators who use them seem to like them. Early versions were not well received because of the sophisticated electronics, and when they came up for auction it seemed than no man dared bid for one. That is no longer the case—over the past 12 months they have become much more acceptable.
"For long-distance and international work owner-drivers particularly seek out high-powered models. The high cab looks good and with the flat floor it's nice inside."
