• Thieves foiled tight security at a Scottish haulage depot last week to steal a truck loaded with £80,000 worth of televisions and videos.

The Volvo tractive unit and trailer were taken from Curries of Dumfries' yard on the night of 12/13 February. They were recovered a day later, minus the load, at Knutsford, Cheshire.

Despite security cameras, the raiders gained entry to Curries' yard and broke in to the truck by smashing the window at the back of the cab.

They were able to drive our through a neighbouring yard without any problems because a new gate had been left open while the main entrance was being concreted, says Curries' Stewart McCulloch.

Police are keen to trace anyone who saw the red truck, registration number CJO 46881 and liveried in the name of subcontractor DJ McCaw, between 19:00hrs on Tuesday 12 February and 13:00hrs on Thursday 14 February.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the recovery of the Mitsubishi-made equipment and the arrest of the thieves.

The tractor has a distinctive tartan stripe, and was towing a yellow 12m twin-axle rigid box trailer with Currie Transport written on both sides.
