Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE FIRST wave of Roadline UK's depot closure programme (CM, February 7) takes effect this month when 226 jobs will disappear with the closure of five depots spread between the Midlands and South-east.

Ninety-nine jobs will go at Surbiton, in Surrey, and 60 at Birmingham. The closure of Chatham branch will result in the loss of 37 jobs, 16 jobs will be axed at Perranporth, and 14 at Hereford, In some cases, staff are being offered alternative posts where vacancies exist.

This measure, which coincides with the loss of around 50 jobs with the closure of the Western region office in Cardiff, is only the first phase of the company's plan to shed 1,400 jobs by late August.

As part of the reorganisation, Roadline's original hub centre at Gloucester is reverting to satellite status, with Bristol taking over some of its responsibilities, but this is unlikely to alter the number of jobs in that area.

And the first of the company's rural outstations will be created at Welshpool, in Powys, when the satellite depot there is downgraded with the loss of up to ten jobs. It requires fewer than ten staff to maintain its collection and delivery service in the area.
