MR. MARPLES is consulting the 1V1 associations representing Welsh local authorities and bus operators with a view to establishing what practical measures were best calculated to help solve the rural transport problem there. When he reported this to the Commons this week the Minister recalled that he had published a report of the results of local rural transport services, including the studies held in Montgomeryshire. He added that he was continuing to keep in mind the views of the Council of Wales when dealing with particular aspects of the rural transport problem as they arose.

Uneconomic Services

THE Traffic Commissioners have before them applications from Mid-Wales Motorways (1963) Ltd. for new licences to operate eight of its services on a reduced bass. Reporting this to the Commons 'this week, Mr. Marples said the applications would be heard at a public sitting under the terms of its current licences, but the company was at liberty to introduce these restrictions in the meant:me if it wished. Earlier, he had been told in the House that the services in the Welsh Border region would be reduced front March 1.
