rl-flEFLY to enable small and little used branch offices to be closed down, the Ministry of Labour have taken delivery of a mobile employment exchange which is to go into experimental service. Others may be built if it proves successful. Particular uses include attendance at construction sites to deal with the recruitment of labour required by civil engineers.

Strachans (Successors), Ltd., Wales Farm Road, London, W.3, built the bodywork on a Bedford petrol-engined coach chassis with an 18-ft. wheelbase. The body shell is of conventional light

alloy construction, and the interior has two compartments—that at the front for the staff, who sit at three interviewing desks, and that at the rear for callers.

There is a sliding door on the near side to each compartment. The rear door opens on to a separate vestibule with its own door leading directly into the compartment. This arrangement is intended to conserve warmth inside the vehicle in cold weather with the comings and goings of callers.

A single de-1 is placed on the off side

and a dou le desk on the near side, with an apertutt provided with a sliding door between t em. Swivelling seats are fixed to the floo on each side of the desks, and other eqiipment includes a six-drawer filing calinet, coat lockers, a safe, and pigeon h les for literature.

Longitu inal bench scats are provided for waitin callers in the rear compartment, and over the near-side rear wheelarch is a cupboard housing two 32-1b.

The side windows have lower panels of reeded glass with Moyden sliders at the top. There is an advertisement frame at the rear and the vehicle is painted light grey. The weight is 4 tons 16 cwt.
