A PPLYING for extra vehicles on theit

Skipton-Llandudno express service, three operators claimed at Blackpool, on Tuesday, that there was enough public demand to fill any additional coaches granted. ' They were Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., W. C. Standerwick, Ltd., and Crosville Motor Services, Ltd. '

Mr. F. D. Walker, for the applicants, said they also wanted to vary the period of operation and make alterations to their time-tables. There were not enough facilities to accommodate all the prospective passengers, and he was sure British Railways could not find room for them.

Mr. G. Dawes, a Ribble traffic assistant, said an earlier start was required to avoid the congestion in areas along the rente and to give passengers better access to refreshment facilities.

Mr. H. Backhouse objected for Ribblesdale Coachways, Ltd., J. Wearden and Sons, Ltd., and Bracewells (Colne), Ltd. He submitted that the application was merely an attempt to alter the present service, which the applicants had had little experience of running. The proposed amendments would make it highly competitive.

On behalf of British Railways, Mr. R. C. Oswald contended that there were frequent rail services which could take the overflow from the three companies. There Was no evidence to support changes, and if any were granted competition would be increased.

Replying, Mr. Walker declared that on the evidence produced there was .ample need for all the variations.

The case continued.

DAY TOURS POPULAR InECAUSE their full-day excursions LP were so popular, J. W. Kitchen and Son, Ltd., Stanningley, Bradford, had used their full vehicle allowance on them and had none left for their half-day excursions, the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners were told at Leeds this week. Excursion traffic in the company's catchment area was increasing.

West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., Wallace Arnold Tours, Ltd., Feather Bros., Ltd., S. Ledyard Bros., and British Railways objected to the company's application.to increase their vehicle allowance from two to three, and during holiday period from three to four. The road objectors said that their excursion traffic was decreasing. Decision was reserved.

DISMISSED WITHOUT ,PREJUDICE A N appeal by Mr. B. S. Williams, of LAEmsworth, Hants, against the refusal by the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners of a licence for excursion and tours Irani. Stedharn, has been rejected by the Minister. of Transport,it was -announced on 'Wednesday.

The Minister 'made it clear that he expressed no view on the merits of the case, which would have to be determined when applications by other operators for similar services were considered.
