Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THREE test cases on balancing charges I have now been selected by the Road Haulage Association to be presented to the Special Commissioners. If the Commissioners' decision is unfavourable the cases are likely to be taken to the High Court. Many hundreds of operators are affected. Mr. Brian McKenna. Q.C., will present the appeals.

The object is to prove that the openmarket value of vehicles acquired by the British Transport Commission from hauliers whose businesses were natiOnalized was lower than the B.T.C. paid.

The R.H.A. are still trying to find an agreed case for appeal on the question of tax rebate on sums paid for special A licences.

SIX TOUR COMPANIES TO OPERATE IN EIRE

QIX, British coach tour operators have

been granted licences by the Eire Government to run inclusive tours in Eire during the coming season. They are Sheffield United Tours, Ltd.; Whittaker's Tours, Ltd.; Northern General Transport Co., Ltd.; Southdown Motor Services, Ltd.; South Midland Motor Services, Ltd.; and Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd.

Each company will maintain a coach in Eire to meet passengers at the point of entry. The six concerns will be allowed to operate one tour a week.

Other British operators are expected to send representatives over to Ireland in the next few months to study the situation. Coras Iompair Eireann, who have operated inclusive coach tours for a number of years, say there will probably be a 50-per-cent. increase in bookings this season.

ANSWER TO LOW BRIDGES , L'OR several years. Middlesbrough Transport Committee have sought a double-decker which, despite low bridges, could be used on all their routes. They are now considering buying a Dennis-Northern Counties bus, to be exhibited at this year's Commercial Motor Show. The bodybuilders think that the vehicle will solve the undertaking's problem and it may be offered to them at cost price.

LAST INDEPENDENT SERVICE

THE last independent bus service operating from Mansfield has been taken over by East Midland Motor Services, Ltd., Chesterfield. It was operated by Wass Bros., Mansfield, from Mansfield to the colliery villages of Forest Town, Clipstone, Edwinstowe and 011erton. Wass Bros. will preserve their coach-hire business.

F.B.I. URGE 6d. TAX CUT

AREDUCTION of 6d. a gallon in fuel duty is recommended by the Federation of British Industries in proposals for the Budget. They say it would "contribute to a reduction of prices on the widest scale."
