A Portsmouth based skip hire firm and waste transfer site operator was granted a licence for three vehicles after convincing Western Traffic Commissioner Philip Brown that it was not a phoenix operation.
Amber Skips had applied for a licence for four vehicles based at Hilsea. The TC was concerned that a previous company run by sole director Janet Walker's husband had had its licence revoked in August.
Mrs Walker said that Amber Skips had been in business since last year; she had become director in September after retiring from a post as a sales assistant with Marks and Spencer. Her husband was employed to run the waste transfer station.
"I wanted to take a more active part," Mrs Walker told the hearing. "He [her husband] always ran the business on his own and I feel more confident to help him out in ajoint effort."
Mrs Walker was asked about an alleged incident where two vehicles belonging to Amber Skips, but which were formerly owned by her husband's business, Walkers Trucking, were used before the granting of an interim licence on 11September. She said the person responsible for her maintenance had been preparing the vehicles for the road and was out testing them.
Mrs Walker refuted a claim that the business was a phoenix operation, although she admitted that the business had been run by her husband Fred before she gave up her Job to run the company.
