SAINSBURY'S IS trialling a green truck powered by waste food and newspapers.
The Mercedes-Benz Axor will use Clean Air Power's Genesis Dual-Fuel system to run on purified biomethane created by rotting landfill rubbish.
A Dual-Fuel system enables diesel engines to function with bio-methane, diesel, and a shot of diesel to aid primary ignition: it can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 60%.
From 18 August (Monday), the lorry will make a 500km round trip from the supermarket's Bristol depot to its dedicated environmental store in Dartmouth, Devon.
