_ MORE TYRE ECONOMY EXHIBITIONS

THERE is quite a recrudescence of Tyre Economy Exhibitions in

various parts of the country. Some people have been inclined to believe that the need for conserving rubber has diminished. This is by no means the case. A N impcirtant matter concerning

the relationship between employer and employee has been settled in the case of the Ford Motor CO., Ltd.. which has agreed to recognize the trade unions in its factories in this country.. The agreement was signed on April 17 by Lord Perry, chairman of the Ford concern, and Sir Walter Citrine, general secretary of the T.U.C. The arrangement will be reviewed after two years. Some 10 unions were involved in the matter.

In a joint statement it is pointed out that the agreement had nothing to do with any diSsatisfaction with the conditions of. employment at the 'Ford works.

HOME GUARD DUTIES OF TRANSPORT WORKERS

THE M.O.W.T. has issued a special instruction pointing out that if, at any time, any road-transport worker be requested to undertake Home Guard duties in excess of the normal 48 hours per month, and the employer feels that this would jeopardize the maintenance of essential transport, services, the latter • should take the Matter tip, in the first instance, with the local Horrie Guard Commander concerned. If satisfaction be not obtained, the matter should be referred to the Regional Transport Commissioner.
