The Activities of a Prominent Company who Own a Large Fleet of Buses and Coaches. The Popularity of Easter Tours.

TELLHE 1925 coaching preparations of R. Percival, Ltd., of Carlisle, are on an extremely elaborate and attractive scale and are based on an extensive experience which they have had in providing utility and pleasure road services for the public. A wide range of over forty tours is provided, from which patrons can select outings covering the requirements of all classes and creeds.

From a geographical standpoint the Border city is most favourably situated, for the mapping out of really appealing tours of anything from half a day to six or seven days' duration. It is within easy running distance of the unrivalled Lakeland beauty spots, and also the many historic landmarks and townships which lie along the Border itself, whilst the celebrated Scottish Trossachs, the Scott country, the Burns country and the north-east coast are all similarly within the limits of one-day coaching possibility, so that most comprehensive tours can be arranged.

The company have in service between 30 and 40 Leyland coaches and buses. All the vehicles are fitted with pneumatic tyres and, indeed, the company claim to be the pioneers of the large= size pneumatic for coaching work in the northern counties. The fleet which will be seen on the road during the 1925 season is of outstandingly smart ap

pearance and ranks as one of the most modern in the area.

On the coaching side Messrs. Percival use 14 22 and 40-seater vehicles, and they determine the duty of each particular coach by the nature of the roads which have to be traversed and upon the suitability of 'a vehicle of any given capacity to meet local conditions.

The company own excellently appointed motor coach offices, station and waiting-roomestablishments at 3, 5 and 7, Lowther Street, and, during the summer months in particular, these are a scene of continuous activity. Prices for 1925 remain unchanged from those of last year, and there is every prospect that, given fine weather, the season will prove an extremely successful one. In addition to whole and half-day tours, extended tours, , varying from two to six and seven days, will be operated.

The following list of tours -operated over the Easter holiday provides a good idea of the variety of venues which figure on the company's programme for 1925 :—

Three-Lake Tour.—ITllswater, Derwent and Bassenthwaite fare, 7s. 6d.

Tyne Valley Tour.—Alston, Stawardle-Peel and Hexham, fare, 7s. 6d. (including tea, 9s.)

Alston and Hartside, fare, including tea, 7s. ed.

Ullswater Lake, via Glenridding, return via Matterdale and Greystoke, fare, including tea, 6s. 6d.

Dumfriesand Lochmaben, fare, es. Circular Tour.—Allonby and Silloth, fare, 4s. 6d.

The management has found that, in many instances, patrons have expressed a wish to be saved the trouble of making arrangements for securing tea and for this reason they now quote rates which include the cost of this meal for several of the tours.

In addition to the more ambitious runs the company operated on a particularly extensive scale to Weatheral, a pretty little village four miles from the city, at a single fare of 6d.
