Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WELL DONE Commercial Motor for your story about diesel spills (CM 13 September,'Protect your diesel— and save lives'). I've no doubt the device you publicised does its stuff and keeps diesel from spilling, but more than that it's good to see a magazine in our industry taking diesel spills seriously.

Like many people in road transport! don't just like trucks: I'm a car enthusiast and ride a motorcycle too. As such I'm in a bike club affiliated to the British Motorcyclists Federation which has a campaign called 'Kill Spills' to try and stamp out this problem.

Every motorcyclist learns to look out for diesel spills, particularly on roundabouts and tight corners, and particularly near sites where tippers are working. I once even saw it happen, a stream of diesel squirting out of a tipper as it took a corner ahead of me. As I saw it happen it was easy enough to avoid but in the dark I might not have been so lucky.

So everyone who runs trucks please think about the harm a diesel spill could do. In the story last week CM reported the DIT report of 16 deaths and 3,000 serious injuries caused by diesel spills. A little care could have saved those lives, Terry Burt Biggin Hill, Kent
