DEMAND FROM FAR EAST FOR LEYLANDS: Orders for a variety of vehicles from several countries in the Far East are reported by Leyland Motors Ltd. Pakistan, Borneo, Malaya, Singapore and Sarawak are the countries, and vehicles ordered range from underfloor-engined bus chassis to dump trucks. Fifteen Super Beaver export models —12 tippers and three 200-gal. tankers—have been ordered by the Public Works Department of Uthal, Karachi, for use on road construction schemes and other projects. A repeat order from the Bombay-Burmah Trading Corporation in Borneo is for Hippo tippers and dumpers and the Royal Malayan Air Force has also ordered two models from Leyland's Hippo range. MORE A.E.C.s FOR LISBON: Lisbon Electric Tramways Ltd. has placed an order for another 20 A.E.C. Regent Mk. V doubledecker bus chassis. They will be sent in kit form to Lisbon where A.E.C.'s distributors, Uniao de Trans portadores para Importocao e Comercio Ltda., will carry out the assembly work.

TASKERS FOR AIRPORT BUS: Malayan Airways has ordered a Taskers 100-passenger capacity bus trailer chassis for use at Singapore Airport. The order was placed through Wearne Bros. and the 35 ft. by 9 ft. chassis will be bodied in Malaya. The unit will he used with a Thames Trader prime mover. PARTS FOR NETHERLANDS RAILWAYS: A large additon to its fleet of Leyland buses is being planned by the Netherlands Railways, which has placed a repeat order worth nearly 050,000 for engines and transmission units with Leyland Motors Ltd_ The contract calls for 100 sets of units for installation in Dutch-bulk buses. Each set will include units similar to those fitted to Leyland's Worldmaster export bus.

WIMPEY ORDERS TIPPERS: An order for a total of 31 A.E.C. Mammoth Major eight-wheel tippers has been placed by • George Wimpey and Co. Ltd. The 14 ft. 8 in. wheelbase vehicles will be powered by A.E.C. AV.690 diesel engines and have six-speed gearboxes with overdrive top.

NORTH WESTERN INCREASES ORDER: North Western Road Car Co. Ltd. has increased its orders for A.E.C. Renown lowheight, double-decker buses to a total of 33. with a new order for 15 vehicles. They will have the same specification as previous orders —including A.E.C. AV.590 diesel engines and lour-speed, synchromesh gearboxes—and some will have illuminated exterior advertising panels.

MUNICIPAL OPPORTUNITIES

Middlesbrough Corporation is being recommended to approve the placing of contracts for the supply of 10 double-decker buses.

Glasgow Corporation invites tenders for the supply of an Austin 72 Omnivan to replace an existing 10-cwt. van.

Oxford City Council Watch Committee has recommended that a fire brigade Bedford van be replaced by a new Morris Minor van at a cost Of £416. It is also proposed to purchase an Austin Gipsy breakdown vehicle for police use.
