maximum marks, tied for the championship of the Manchester Corporation Cleansing Department fleet, awards for which were presented by the Lord Mayor, Ald. R. C. Rodgers, at the departmental vehicle parade on Platt Fields last Saturday. Among the drivers were former champions E. Culloden (34 previous awards), F. Taylor (23) and J. Donnelly (15). H. Pickles, D. Sandham. A. E. Morris and S. Roscoe were making their first appearances in the championship list. All seven had gained maximum points at the
three sets of inspections during the past year.
At the third inspection, prizes for which were also distributed last Saturday, 17 drivers gained maximum marks. Only a quarter-mark separated them from the next four on the list, who were graded equal 18th. Nearly 200 of the department's vehicles were on parade.
Statistics for the year to March last show that the fleet ran 1,415.806 miles, worked 434,919 hours and transported 246,200 tons of refuse. Total operating costs were £403,357.
