THE growth of television and private transport in Chester may be causing Chester Transport Department to lose revenue at the rate of at least £12,280 a year.

In his report for the year ended March 31 last, Mr. H. J. Hooky. general manager, says that in the past three years the number of television licences issued in Chester district has increased by 14,000. If only a fifth of the new owners lived in areas served by the Transport Department, and if they reduced their expenditure on travel by • Is. per family per week, the department would lose £7,280 a year.

During the same period 2,212 more cars, motorcycles and so on have been licensed in the district. If only a quarter of the owners of these vehicles ceased to use the buses, the loss of revenue is placed at 4s. a week each, or more than £5.000 a year.

BLACKPOOL COACH FEES MAY BE REDUCED

UNDER pressure from the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association, Blackpool Corporation are proposing to revise the charge for coach parking on municipal grounds. Last November the fee was raised from 3s. to 5s. for 12 hours.

Under the new proposals, the charge for 12 hours would remain at 5s., but there would be the following additional fees: 3s, for up to two hours; 10s. for over 12 and up to 30 hours; and 15s. for over 30 and up to 54 hours.

The highway committee say that the revisions should meet protests about short and long-term parking. However, Aid. Rhodes W. Marshall. a coach operator, will tell the next meeting of the town council that operators are not satisfied with, the recommendations. They think Blackpool should be more liberal with people who supply the resort with many thousands of pounds worth of business every week
