"The result is that more coaches are coming on to the roads, and with traffic congestion growing from day to Clay. this is a matter for some concern," he added.

Mr. L. C. Lighterness,, president of the conference, emphasized the importance of modernizing the railways so that traffic could be regained from road transport.

T"gantry for filling road tankers at the new Teesport installation of Shell-IVIex and 13.P., Ltd., which was opened on Wednesday, is 160 ft. long and 12 vehicles can be filled simultaneously in the various bays. Twentythree storage 'tanks have a total capacity of over 32m. gal., and a throughput of more than 500,000 tons a year will be maintained.

Road tankers can be filled at rates varying from 250-500 g.p.m. Quantities are metered. A well-equipped service building has been provided for the maintenance of the vehicles working from the installation.
