Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

and potential future user of the pallet networks, that we'd have received a call or two to ensure we were satisfied with the service received. Sadly none were forthcoming. The invoices, however, were fairly swift, with Star Transport being the most prompt in asking for the total bill of £72 (ex-VAT), apparently waiving the 4% fuel surcharge that had originally been mentioned.

No such luck regarding the surcharge from Palletways, though even with the 13.8% fuel addition the total bill of £66 (exVAT) was cheaper than the Pall-Ex bill.

Best value on price for the job was Pal letline which, despite insisting on the inconvenience of payment on collection,

wanted just £48 for our business.

Fortec was next best on price with a £57 (ex-VAT) rate, and we're not sure how FreightForce ended up charging us £83.34 with the VAT, when we calculate the bill should have been £76.38.

Apparently, they stuffed us for a fuel surcharge. We've no objection to paying it, indeed it should be encouraged, but we would have liked to be told beforehand.
