TRAINING FOR digital tachographs will cost operators about £600 per driver, adding a huge burden to operabonal costs, according to speakers at the Transport Tracking 2005 conference in Sweden last week.
This would mean an operator with 20 trucks would be looking at £12,000 in additional training costs.
Robin Sharp, health and safety manager at the Freight Transport Association, warns that operators must carefully plan for their training needs, Oven the timescales and costs involved.
There are currently three products on the market-from Stoneridge, Seimens and Actia SmarTech and drivers will have to understand all three.
Although the introduction of digi-tachs has already been pushed back until 1 January 2006, it now looks likely that implementation may face further delays, until August next year.
