Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The rUttisties in connection with the taxation of motor vehicles for the period ending August 31st have recently been published. They cover the first nine months of the taxation year from December 1st last.

The number of commercial goods vehicles registered to the date mentioned is 224,287, which represents an increase of 7,321 in the three months, and of 21,131 in the 12 months following August 31st, 1924. Road locomotives, on the other hand, show a de

crease, the number registered being 2,156, which is 70 fewer than were registered at the end of May and 164 fewer than were registered at the end of the previous year. Motor tractors number 1,306, an increase of 54 in the three months, but as compared with a year ago there is a falling off of 56. Of motor hackney vehicles, 98,833 were registered, an increase in the three months of 6,809, and in the 12 months of 4,680. Exempted motor vehicles, which include fire-engines, ambulances

and vehicles belonging to the Services, increased from 14,912 at the end of May to 15,813 at the end of August, the difference being 901, whilst in the course of the 12 months the figure had increased by 1,773.

There is also a large increase in the number of cars taxed on a h.p. basis, and of motorcycles, a large number of each class being employed in commer cial goods service, it is a pity the actual figures are not available.
