• Accrington haulier Gary Metz has had his fourvehicle/four-trailer licence revoked on financial grounds by North Western Traffic Commissioner Keith Waterworth. Metz, who trades as ATS, appeared before the TC after being convicted of falsely claiming repayments of VAT for which he was given a suspended prison sentence.
Maintenance loss
• Maintenance problems have led to the authorisation on the licence held by Brian Metcalf, trading as Metrans, of Liverpool, being cut from 16 vehicles to 12 for a month. Metcalf appeared before North Western DTC Patrick Mulvenna at a Trafford disciplinary inquiry.
Severe warning
• Scottish DTC Richard MacFarlane has granted a licence for five vehicles and one trailer to Fauldhouse, West Lothian, based John Paton (Potato) Merchants, rather than the seven vehicles sought. At an Edinburgh public inquiry he also issued a severe warning about maintenance standards and the firm's general conduct.
Fortnight off
• Maintenance problems have led to the licence held by Lincoln-based GL Coles & Son being cut from two vehicles and a trailer to one vehicle and a trailer for a fortnight at a Cambridge disciplinary inquiry before Eastern TC Brigadier Compton Boyd.
