THE Transport Salaried Staffs Association is to ask the Minister of Transport to halt the reorganization of the South-Eastern division of British Road Services; a T.S.S.A. spokesman told The Commercial Motor this week that the Association feels that, as a matter of principle, any further reorganization of B.R.S. which might involve staff redundancy should be postponed until the promised national examination of transport has been made. This examination, it contends, might well result in expansion of B.R.S.—which would run counter to plans involving redundancy of staff.

This T.S.S.A. view was made known following a meeting of the unions and management at a B.R.S. national staff council on Tuesday. The discussion of the proposed reorganization in the SouthEast was not completed and is to be resumed shortly.

The T.S.S.A. has consistently opposed the South-Eastern reorganization, as there has been a fear that redundancy would result from transferring control of London-area trunk-service branches to the provincial districts; as well as certain depots on the fringe of the London area coming under provincial control, the proposals are understood to include the closure of some existing district offices in the South-East. .

This area is the last in the B.R.S. general haulage organization to be reorganized so that the divisional structure is eliminated and the regional districts become directly answerable to headquarters.
